TikTok’s new American CEO Kevin Mayer spoke on the issue of fake news with the European Commissioner in charge of digital, the French Thierry Breton. At the end of this discussion, TikTok decided to join Google, Facebook, Twitter and even Mozilla, by signing the EU code of conduct against disinformation. A code expected to become more severe in the future.
For several months the European digital commissioner Thierry Breton has been meeting with the CEOs of large technology companies: Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Sundar Pichai (Google), Tim Cook (Apple), Jack Dorsey (Twitter). On June 9, it was the turn of Kevin Mayer, the new CEO of TikTok to chat by videoconference with Thierry Breton.
TikTok signs the EU Code of Good Practice
The company spokesman also praised the cooperation between the entertainment platform and the European Commission “in connection with the signing of the code of good practice on disinformation”. This attitude of TikTok is the logical continuation of the efforts made to reassure Western countries. The latter, led by the United States, fear the links of the parent company of the application, ByteDance, and China.
