TikTok and Génération Numérique make users aware of the media and false information

The Chinese mastodon TikTok is joining forces with Génération Numérique, an association for education in citizenship in the digital age, to make users of the platform aware of the media and information. From July 7 to 13, a fun educational campaign will take place especially for the youngest in order to fight against disinformation and online manipulation by encouraging them in particular to develop their critical spirit.

Learn and build critical thinking in a fun way

The Internet is a great tool for accessing information. But it’s difficult to discern the real info on the web, especially for a young audience. It is therefore important to raise awareness and educate as many people as possible about the media and information in order to become aware of the risks of following or sharing false or unverified information.

Through this campaign, TikTok and Digital generation aim to make users of the Chinese platform aware of the challenges of online disinformation.

In the program :
  • The Enlightening Minute : simple and effective explanatory videos of one minute, directly accessible on the official TikTok account of Génération Numérique to combat preconceived ideas and learn to check its sources and strengthen its critical spirit. Through these videos, TikTok users discover what is reliable information vs. “fake news” and how to prevent it; what the profession of journalist is and its importance in the transmission of reliable information and data; how to prevent hate content online by self-applying a form of self-restraint; etc.
  • A fun educational quiz : to educate as many people as possible and in a fun way, TikTok and Génération Numérique offer users to take part in a quiz to assess their knowledge of media and information. 7 questions, 3 answers each time, to find out and understand the difference between information, a source or a rumor or even identify unreliable or even false information.

To participate, TikTok and Génération Numérique give you an appointment, from July 7 to 13, directly on the TikTok application and on the official TikTok account of the association @DigitalGeneration.
