A young man was fatally struck by a train in Pakistan as he was filmed by a friend walking along train tracks for a video he wanted to post on TikTok, police officials said on Saturday and relief.
The accident happened on Friday in the suburb of Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad. Hamza Naveed, 18, was walking along the tracks while a friend filmed him, said Raja Rafaqat Zaman, the spokesperson for local relief operations.
“The moving train struck him as he was posing for a video and walking on the tracks,” Zaman said. Rescue workers rushed to the scene, he said, but the young man was already dead.
Friends of the victim told rescuers he was posing for a video to post on TikTok and his other social media accounts, Zaman said.
Taking selfies and making videos for social media is very popular in Pakistan, as in many other countries, where many young people use their posts to update their Facebook, Twitter and TikTok accounts.
